TRANSFORMED CHAIRS

27 identical chairs were transformed into artworks by 29 artists as part of the
the 2005 St Johns Window Project in Portland, Oregon. Chairs were placed in a dozen business windows in the business district of the St Johns neighborhood. They were also exhibited at Portland City Hall in spring of 2006. Curated by Bonnie Meltzer . The St Johs window Project was sponsored by Art on the Peninsula.

Each artist was given a discarded chair with only one direction:

Use any or all of the chair to make an artwork. The chairs exemplify the indivdual creative spirit of each artist and a glimpse into the creative process in general.

Chairs originally exhibited during the 2005 St Johns Window Project July 30 - August 20. Soon all chairs will be pictured. Look for information about an exhibition of all the chairs in the coming months.

The St Johns Window Project is sponsored by Art on the Peninsula, For more informaion about Art on the Peninsula and the St Johns Window Project call Mary Jaron Kelley at the North Portland Neighborhood Services office at 503-823-4099 or mkelley@ci.portland.or.us
